I took the Vikram. All by myself.
I was a little nervous to flag one down. I wasn't sure that they would stop for me. But after one false start I boarded the little blue number five that took me to Astley Hall. Then I called Achui who walked me through where to find the number one Vikram that would take me the rest of the way to Rajpur.
This is the Vikram/Bus stand at the bottom of the road that leads into Rajpur. It was kind of rainy but at least it was cool clean air.
I should have taken a picture of the hill because you can't see it in this picture and it is a HIKE. Like - seriously steep.
But the climb is definitely worth it. The higher you go, the better the view.
She's housesitting for a couple named Anne and Rob from the UK. This is the view from their living room.
They come back next week so she's currently trying to find a new place to live. I think she will miss the view the most.
Achui's friend Goldy is working on an MSW. She was almost done with her forty page thesis when a computer virus struck. I spent a good three hours trying to get it back but when that didn't work, I started helping her to rewrite it. It's a ton of work and we ended up spending much of Saturday working on it. She's also helping me with my Hindi.

We haven't finished the paper yet, but it's due on Saturday so I'm going to try to find time this week to help Goldy again. Today was her birthday and she graciously invited me to her house for the party. I'll post about that later. I think we may try to work more on her paper tomorrow in between my classes.
Just caught up - thanks for all the great posts! I hope that girl that ran away from home is okay - have you heard anything new from her? The view from the yard reminds me so much of Mexico City. Good for you for making iced tea! What a weirdly sized pitcher. I don't measure when I make tea, so I probably wouldn't have noticed the weird size. Glad you're spreading our American culture (via pickles and iced tea) to those around you! Can't believe you got up to your friend's suburb all by yourself! What a beautiful view that UK couple have, and your POOR friend that lost the 40 pages!! That is just heart breaking. Glad you can help her re-write it. Love and miss you. Daniel and I are driving in to Boulder tomorrow at 4:45 AM to go to their 6 AM Bikram Yoga class. We are crazy. I have to go to bed b/c it's already 11... I just haven't been able to sleep due to pregnancy discomforts. So... I'm gonna go try again. Next time I should just email you... but wait, Gmail isn't working up here for some reason - I don't know what that's about.
ReplyDeleteNavila's mom comes today to file an official missing person report with the Dehradun police. I suppose that means the police will actually have to do something now.
