Chopta and Tungnath part 1

So we left off with Songjoo and Craig heading for Delhi by way of Rishikesh. Meanwhile, Matthew and I headed for Chopta and the road blockage. We took a shared jeep taxi. That means that we shared the below jeep with about ten other people.

Including this cute baby and her parents. She was very fun to talk to.

We stayed in a place called Maya Deep which was about four km from Chopta. Supposedly, this was the "luxery" accomodations. I should have taken more pictures because it was NOT luxurious. I think I've mentioned before that you should take anything Matthew says with a grain of salt.

But there was a nice hike right outside the front door of the hotel. We ended up in this tiny village. There was no one else around so maybe village is too strong of a word.

The next morning, we caught another shared jeep taxi to Chopta.

Where we had a surprisingly good breakfast before heading up the hill to Tungnath.

This hike was only about 4km so it wasn't nearly as difficult as the one to Khedarnath.

There were even some mountain bunnies.

I know, he looks like a Pika, but he's not. He hopped around just like a little rabbit and according to the guidebooks, these are quite common up in the mountains.

And due to some poor planning on my part, I'll have to continue this section in the next post.
