These are the symbols of my freedom...

Yes, keys to my scooter.
It's a 1998 Bajaj Chetek. It's kind of a beast. It's incredibly heavy. I have a bruise on my thigh where the handle hit me as I was trying to keep it from falling over.
This beauty is from trying to kick start it.
But I did get it started. I'll probably have to get the idle adjusted as I have to continually give it gas when it's in neutral to keep it from dying.
But it was cheap and it runs. Which means I can go many places without having to explain to someone where I want to go or haggle over the price.
I'm getting better at driving it although at this point, mostly Matthew drives and I ride on the back.
I'll admit, the prospect of driving in afternoon traffic is still slightly terrifying.
But soon enough, I'll be able to use it to give these puppies a good breaking in.
Well, here they are with brand new soles. Best six bucks I ever spent.
Wow - very cool! Who'd you buy it from?
ReplyDeleteThat is great! You got a GREAT deal on the boot fix.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome!! Congrats on the wheels and heels ;) Impressive bruises!
ReplyDeleteHey, I keep MISSING you! AAaaarg!
I bought the scooter from a guy on quikr.com which is a free classified service. He lives about a five minute walk from the school so he just drove the scooter over after my class was done and let me test drive it. Well, actually, Matthew test drove it. I couldn't even get it started. But now I can... and I can ride it by myself even.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes... labor is very cheap here! I saw a sign the other day at a taylor's shop that said 150 rupees for a kameez... that's about three dollars for them to make a kameez for you. I don't know how well it would actually fit, but I would charge you way more than three dollars to make you a shirt :) well maybe not you guys... family discount and all that.
