I was very dissapointed to learn that offers for January orientation class came and went and they only offered spots to 12 people on the consular register. That moves me up to space 60 but it also means, I will move up again before the next set of calls go out. Apparently, the January class's budget is coming out of fiscal year 2009's budget. They've used all of 2009 but don't have the 2010 budget so they could not offer to the full 15-19 Con trekkers they would normally offer to. Before they send out offers for February, they need Congress to pass their budget so they know how many people they can offer spots to. I'm beginning to understand how very slow government works... not that this should be a surprise to anyone. It does make me wonder how suited I am to government work if I can't be patient for a few more months while Senate works on passing the appropriations bill.
For those of you interested, here's a link to an article all about it. For all of you non political junkies out there, each governmental department/agency has to have their budget approved each year by Congress. The funding that's going to pay for me to be hired comes from this budget (the budget is included in the appropriations bill, or maybe it IS the appropriation bill). Some day I will probably be able to explain exactly what that means, but right now, all I know is that the health care plan is what is taking up all of Senate's time which is I think why they haven't gotten around to passing the appropriations bill that will pay for me to get hired.
I heard on the radio today that someone was saying they should read all 2,074 pages of the bill on the floor of the Senate. Someone thinks that's a good use of taxpayer time and money? I truly feel that I'm non partisan on most issues, this however, may drive me into the arms of the Dem's. What the crap, Rep's?
