After Nahan - Chandigarh

After Nahan, we made our way by bus to Chandigarh where we took a VERY slow cycle rickshaw to our VERY strange hotel where we met up with Matthew.

It was strange because it was way off the beaten path and there was some sort of trade show going on there. But it was cheap which was nice and it was close enough to the shopping/hotel district that we were able to very easily jump on the double decker site seeing bus.

We sat on the top and enjoyed the view.

We met a friend. She asked if we were from a "foreign country". I told her we were from a foreign country but that if we were there, it wouldn't be foreign. This seemed to confuse her.

She was adorable though.

Chandigarh was supposed to be the India of the future. It was designed by a French architect and the streets are wide and surrounded by ample green space.

It's not really like India at all.

On the tour, we visited an art museum, an art gallery, and a lake.

Unfortunately this was about where the camera battery died.

Which was too bad because Becky and my favorite place was the Nek Chand Art Gallery.

It was a created by a local artist who was completely uneducated. He started making these statues and scultures out of concrete and found objects out in the jungle (technically on government land). The army stumbled upon it and instead of destroying it, they commissioned him to create this amazing work of art.

I wish I had more pictures of his work because it really was very cool.

We left Chandigarh the next morning to head up to the hills of Shimla.
