Can you keep a secret?

This is for my nephew Jack's birthday. It's not for another two months so don't show this to him.
Harry Potter Wizard Robe
It's a Hogwart's robe. Now, technically, if you watch the movies, the hood is just plain black, but I think the red lining is a nice touch. The best part of this robe, however, is that I made it long enough that it should fit him until he's twelve (he'll be six in September). All my sister has to do is take out the sleeves and the hem line.

It is surprisingly hard to find a good pattern for a wizard robe. Most of the ones I found either didn't have sleeves or the sleeves were too big and drapey. I looked in desperation at the bathrobes but most of those robes didn't have hoods. I could have fashioned one from another pattern but that's a lot of work.

My mom was the one that finally found the perfect pattern. (Thanks Mom!)

Not a likely candidate, I know. But it had a hood and adding length to a coat is easy enough. I also added lining to the hood and pleated instead of gathering the fabric under the yoke.

One down, two more to go.

Incidentally, I found the patches on Amazon. I love Amazon. You can find anything there. I'm totally addicted to prime shipping. If it doesn't ship free with prime, I don't buy it.  I'm so lazy now, sometimes I order things that I would normally get at the grocery store. Like vitamins or aspirin.

  1. I'm so jealous!! That looks fantastic! You know, I've been thinking of making circle skirts for the girls, like the ones we used to have. Maybe I should wait till they're a little older.

  2. Thanks! I made circle skirts for Lizzy and Hope but I haven't made one for Lucy... she's a bit small for that.
